Where Private Lessons Meet Personal Growth

Flute playing is a journey. But who says you can’t also enjoy the ride?

Hi, I’m Anamarie!

I’ve been playing the flute for over 20 years. Like so many of us, I starting playing the flute in my 6th grade band. I certainly didn’t know then, but playing the flute would teach me lessons far beyond just music.

Between performance highs and the disappointing rejections, I've felt it all.

I understand what it's like to constantly compare yourself to others.

I've heard all the mean self-talk my brain has said about my flute playing.

And I know the constant questioning of "am I good enough?"

Flute lessons has been one of the biggest constants in my life even now as a professional.

If you are brand new the flute as a young student or an adult, or you are coming back to the instrument after years off, welcome. You are in the right place. Flutes lessons in Richmond, Virginia

So what are private flute lessons like?

This moment is all about YOU!

Whether you are interested in playing the flute in college, simply want to get a little bit better or starting out for the first time, our lessons are designed to help you excel with ALL of your goals (even if they aren’t music related)!

Right now, your attention is being pulled in so many different directions between school, your friends, your responsibilities, and thinking about your future. When was the last time you paused and took a deep breath? When was the last time you did something for yourself?

Well, these lessons are it. This is where private lessons meet personal growth.

This is your time.

Taking flute lessons with me is about becoming your own best teacher. When we encounter something difficult or challenging in our life, often our instinct is to walk (or run) in the other direction. But in flute lessons, we accept the challenge head on. Through reflection and perseverance, we rise to the challenge. The goal is to reflect upon your own growth and understand how it happened.

Who are lessons for?

Lessons are for anyone! Whether you have an elementary, middle or high school student ready to start learning or get better, or are an adult student looking to learn something new or revisit an old passion, DiazFlute Studio is here for you!

Lesson Length

Lessons are 30, 45, or 60 minutes offered once a week. Lesson packages are also available.

What is the learning process like?

For younger flute students (elementary and early middle) emphasis is placed on learning the fundamentals, repetition, and introduction to musical concepts throught games, dancing, and drawing.

Older flute students (late middle through adult) are encouraged to develop a strong sense of self reflection and individual responsibility by thinking critically about how they are playing. I often ask questions like:

  • How would you describe your tone?

  • Do you like what your tone sounded like?

  • What did you do to achieve the tone you liked?

  • Why do you think that note cracked?

  • What do you think is the cause of that finger stumble?

Beyond just a private lesson

Beyond the weekly private lesson students have the opportunity perform in 2 studio recitals, participate in yearly mock audition, take part in studio challenges, and perform in the studio flute choir. Our fluteless activies include the end of the year party and celebrations for achieving playing milestones.

Cost

Lesson cost is discussed during the trial lesson. Financial assistance is available and information can be provided after the trial lesson.
