The Community Flute Lessons Project aims to provide free flute lessons to public school students in the Richmond area who lack access to private music instruction due to financial constraints. By offering high-quality, individualized flute lessons at no cost, the program seeks to nurture musical talent, boost confidence, and expand educational opportunities for young musicians.

The Details

The Community Flute Lessons Project provides free group flute instruction to public school students in Richmond and surrounding areas who lack access to private lessons.

Students meet for 60-minute weekly lessons during their band period over two 10-week sessions in the school year. Lessons focus on fundamentals, band repertoire, and new musical works — all leading up to a final student performance.

All materials are provided by the instructor, except for a working flute. This program is designed to eliminate financial and logistical barriers, making high-quality music education accessible to all.

The inaugural session of the Community Flute Lessons Project will take place Fall 2025 at Colonial Heights Middle School!
